Oh glorious food! I can say that now coming from a really sick relationship with it. In my early 20′s after the death of my father who died from obesity related health problems, I reacted to this experience by becoming a compulsive binger. I wasn’t aware of it at the time but food was my drug of choice. I would sometimes eat a whole chicken or a whole pie, or a pan of cinnamon rolls. It alleviated the emotional pain that I was experiencing and the layers of fat on my body created a shield for me to protect me from the world.

It was a long journey that took me on detours. Honestly, I can’t comfortably say that I have arrived. I still may have this addiction laying dormant in me. What I do know is that I’m very conscious and make an effort every single day of my life to be aware of what I want to feel like and the kind of relationship I’d like to have with Food. I want to eat when I’m hungry, truly hungry, not craving for Love or hiding from it or creating layers of fat to become invisible because I’m receiving too much sexual energy from men or eat because I want to protect myself from the world, from living. I want to eat Food because I want to enjoy the ritual of celebration with friends I love or the sensual dance I create using food as an element to experience with a lover. I want to eat because I am hungry from an amazingly fulfilling workout that I had just completed. I want to eat because I want to live.

Food for Thought is a special part of CGL where we will explore not only the emotional connection we have with food but how certain diet lifestyles can positively transform the body, health, and one’s life.
