This lifelong desire is starting to get very interesting. Totally blew it for the past ten days maybe I should say ten years. No not really…I need to start cutting myself some slack and I’m in the process…always in the process.

I need to understand that while I’m still alive I will always be in the process. The notion of failing only occurs if I quit, never striving to achieve again or when I stop living.

The feelings of frustration with my body and being a slave to food is tiresome and consumes me once in a while but I never stop searching for an answer to peace. How do I be at peace with being who I am and what I am so I may re-create whatever I’d like, in this case, re-creating a body and achieving physical mastery?

I need help. I need guidance. I need an expert who has the knowledge and the emotional sensitivity to really help me with this important goal of mine.

I think I have found him. Rolando is my new trainer…and WOW!

Plus Size Starts at Size 6? Gimme a Break!

How could that be? A fashion model who is a size 6 or above is considered plus size in the modeling industry? Things have changed since I was modeling for the Wilhelmina Modeling Agency a while back. No wonder women’s minds are messed up from all of these images of how we “should” be and how we “should” look.

The interview is interesting. The plus size models are absolutely gorgeous but I would have liked to see ethnic representation, Hispanic and African-American representation since more easily embrace their curves.

Anthony Hamilton‘s “Sista Big Bones”

I love this song. It’s reminiscent of what Dad would love to play. Old school soul!

This song was the Curvy Goddess Anthem for Rip the Runway 2006. I was one of the Curvy Goddesses onstage while Mr. Hamilton was doing his thang! He thought I was being mean because he was interrupting my catwalk flow with his walk toward me trying to hold my hand. At one point during rehearsals he blurted out to me “You’re being mean to me” followed with the puppy dog face. You know the look, Girls. They’re just fishing for the sympathy and a hope that you would nurse them to good spirits with the bosom nurturing.

Well anyway…Love the song, Love Mr. Hamilton and Love, Love, Love Ultra Curvy Goddess, Mon’que!

Mark Fast is a Hero

But he’s just a fashion designer…Probably not the epitome of the hero that you may picture in your mind to be, muscular, chiseled, wielding a sword around, and parading in a leather uniform like those sexy Spartans did. Oh those men were fierce! But this is the 21st Century and he definitely is courageous in his field to go against the grain.

Mark Fast, British designer, used three “plus size” models in his show during London Fashion Week. It created quite a stir. Two of his staff quit in reaction to his decision. The “plus size” models were 12 -14 UK which translates 10 -12 in US sizing. Not really plus size, but definitely these women were curvier and bigger in comparison to the standards in the modeling world. The fashion industry seems to lean toward fantasy and does not seem to have a grasp with who real woman are and what we wear. Instead we real women see the fantasy, pay close attention to the fantasy and it can dictate what we wear and how we see ourselves.

Mark made a decision that hopefully will last and effect the fashion industry in a positive way — create some shift. When one is in a world that is all about fantasy and extremes then your mind thinks that is the norm. Watching the show and reading the comments about the show — that he’s advocating being fat and obesity and being unhealthy, I’m thinking to myself that these people have already been conditioned to think that women who look like 8 years old girls in heels is normal and healthy. Watch the video guys! Am I missing something?

“I think it’s time really,” Fast expresses in a phone interview with CBC News. “There’s such beauty out there and it’s unfortunate that it’s only representative in one size.” Mark Fast is celebrating women with curves and they looked absolutely beautiful. Now coming from a fashion modeling background where I was a skilled runway model and around amazing runway models who had their walks down to a science, an effortless float and maybe some hip action if needed for a little spice, I’d like to have seen “plus” models who had beautiful walks to show off their beautiful bodies. Then they would’ve taken the show by storm! I don’t think “Fashion” is ready for that but I don’t want to keep that a secret for too long.

Welcome to NYC Personal Trainer Curvy Goddess Workout on video. This is Week #2 of the Crystal Series. Each video is approximately 10 minutes long. I have a natural pace on the videos but I want you to focus on your natural pace. Don’t try to keep up with me. I want your movements to be conscious and controlled, making sure that you’re in touch with what you’re feeling when you’re doing the movements.

I’d like you to start with 3 days/week with both Part 1 and 2. You may do the workouts everyday if you wish. Don’t be preoccupied with having to take a day break to rest body parts etc. etc. They are 10 min. long — very short and sweet. The focus for the Crystal Series is to get the body used to just moving again — how it’s designed to do.

Fat Burning Video – Part 1:

Resistance Band – Medium
Pair of Dumbbells (1-3 lbs)
Chair or Workout Bench

Exercise #1: Sit Down, Stand Up bringing the arms up when you stand up. (You may intensify the movement by holding the dumbbells.)

Exercise #2: Alternating Shoulder Presses with dumbbells.

Exercise #3: Standing Resistance Band Rows (Stand in the middle of bands to secure in place. Cross the handles and bend over pulling back and squeezing the shoulder blades together.)

You want to go through the 3 exercises back-to-back to keep heart rate up for fat burning and cardiovascular results.

Exercise #1: Inner Thigh Squeezes with Pilates Ring
Exercise #2: Bridges keeping Pilates Ring between the Thighs
Exercise #3: Taps (Bring Knees into Chest – Alternating)

The Long Marilyn Dress in Blue

I’ve pointed out to you the fact, Curvy Goddess, that “I’m a work in progress” when it comes to fashion. I’ve just recently taken an interest in fashion and dressing my newly loved body. Yes, after 41 years I’m starting to appreciate my statuesque, “cause for attention” body.

So in this place of appreciation I want to display it with beautiful clothing. I’m pointing the limelight onto plus size fashion designer, Monif C’s Marilyn Convertible Dress. When I saw it online I could not believe there existed something so gorgeous, yet functional, especially for our bodies! One seasonless dress, endless ways for converting into dozens of looks.

I WAS excited and I think this designer is brilliant. No Mumus for us. No hiding and being invisible with our clothing. The Marilyn Convertible ain’t no frock! It’s a masterpiece enhancing our artist inspiring curves.

There’s something fulfilling for me to have that ability and opportunity to create something new in my life and without ever realizing until recently that I have this ability to constantly recreate my Self — from opera singer to fashion model to personal trainer to fitness expert for Curvy Women. It’s exciting to be in the beginning stages of recreating again.

I know what I want and the sense of purpose is strong–being able to participate in the process of a woman’s transformation. One moment watching, observing a woman and knowing that she’s hiding her “greatness” in hopes that she will save herself from the pain of growth, of transformation and listening to the words that she uses to apologize for the beautiful Curvy Goddess that she is. And then having the honor of being present to the indescribable radiance that this Curvy Goddess emits from her Light, seeing her reach out to the world around her, listening to the words that she uses to love her Self.

Now Curvy Goddesses, he totally understands the CGL philosophy. Love where you are now. Dress the part now. Don’t wait until you lose the pounds to look absolutely beautiful. And it seems you can look wonderful with this new ICON collection from Lane Bryant.

To be honest with you, I hardly ever step into Lane Bryant stores although I pass one almost every single day because the styles always seem to disappoint until…now. I passed the store a couple of days ago and I was actually Wowed. The outfits on the mannequins in the window made me stop. Steffy, my friend and little fashion plate who also works for Manolo Blahnik happened to be there with me when I expressed positive feedback. Steffy shared with me that Lane Bryant is attempting something new and different. I’m hoping they will make more changes — take more risks with their styles. I think they’re going in the right direction.
