You know you have to do it and the time is NOW.
After weeks and months and for some of you it’s been years of: “I’ll get to it over the next long weekend” and “I’ll do it when the seasons change”. The time has come for you to open your closet door without fearing that everything stuffed inside won’t come tumbling out. It’s as simple as this:
IF YOU HAVEN’T WORN IT IN A YEAR…OR YEARS, TOSS IT.
Frankly, this is the perfect time to start letting go of items that keep you in a fashion time warp…like that double breasted suit with the 3″ thick shoulder pads! I know shoulder pads have made a comeback, but not like that!
And let’s not forget about that one thing you just can’t imagine parting with…yeah, I’m talking about the sweater you were wearing when you got your first kiss! Trust this. You will never wear it again! I know it holds a wonderful memory, but it is also taking up precious closet space!! Save the memory for your mind and heart, and if you must see it, take a picture…it just might last longer!
IF YOU BOUGHT IT TWO YEARS AGO AND IT’S STILL GOT THE PRICE TAGS ON IT, 86 IT.
Think of this time of purging as an opportunity to help someone else in need. Times are hard and folks need a hand. Making a donation of your “closet treasures” can really make a difference in the world of someone less fortunate. It’s a great way to give back and share. Allow someone else to make a new memory with your contribution.
IF IT’S TWO SIZES TOO SMALL OR BIG, DUMP IT.
No point living in the past. It’s about to be a New Year. If you’re holding on to something that’s not your size, “just in case”, or as a reminder of where you came from or want to go, read the first two tips again.
Truth be told, cleaning out your closet isn’t nearly as fun as slurping cocktails with your girls, or checking Facebook to see who’s up for a quick IM session but the process can be completely therapeutic. Something about it just makes you feel good when it’s all done…so we’ve heard…
…ok now I have to go clean MY closet!
