Plus Size Starts at Size 6? Gimme a Break!

by Diane on November 21, 2009

How could that be? A fashion model who is a size 6 or above is considered plus size in the modeling industry? Things have changed since I was modeling for the Wilhelmina Modeling Agency a while back. No wonder women’s minds are messed up from all of these images of how we “should” be and how we “should” look.

The interview is interesting. The plus size models are absolutely gorgeous but I would have liked to see ethnic representation, Hispanic and African-American representation since more easily embrace their curves.

I’m always surprised to see that plus size seems to start at size 6 and also ends at 22W. So what happens to the women who – with or without Spanx – can NOT squeeze into 22W. What are we, if we are not called Plus Size? Where are we allowed to shop to look sophisticated and sexy?

It just seems so ridiculous. I’m wondering who dictates this. Who is really behind all of this administrating of size that don’t make sense in the real world.

Plus size women are considered invisible based on the messages sent.
